Antelope Valley Medical Center
7,200 sq ft
40 treatment bays
Support Space
Antelope Valley Medical Center (AVMC), a critical healthcare facility in Lancaster, California, faced significant challenges due to overcrowding in its emergency department. Treating approximately 9,000 patients a month and being the second busiest emergency room in the state, AVMC needed additional space to accommodate growing patient demand. Furthermore, as the only Level II trauma center and an emergency department approved for pediatric care in the region, the hospital required an expansion that minimized disruption to ongoing emergency services. The location constraints of the emergency department, particularly the limited space available near the existing ambulance drop-off area, added complexity to the expansion project.
The Solution
To address this urgent need, RAD provided AVMC a 7,200 sq ft modular emergency department addition. The expansion included 40 treatment bays, a nurses’ station, and support areas, and was designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing structure. Utilizing RAD’s modular construction approach, the project minimized onsite disruption by constructing most of the facility offsite in a factory. The addition, certified as an OSHPD-1 facility, was strategically located within the ambulance drop-off area while ensuring continuity of emergency services. The new, larger emergency department enhances AVMC’s ability to provide timely and efficient care to its growing patient population.
