Maintaining Sterility Amid Renovation: A Rapid SPD Solution for the Defense Health Agency
The Defense Health Agency faced a significant obstacle during a planned hospital renovation and equipment upgrade: how to maintain uninterrupted sterile processing services while the existing Sterile Processing Department (SPD) was offline. The agency required a rapid, reliable interim solution that could be deployed without compromising operational standards or sterility protocols.
The Solution
FlexSPD: Rapid, On-Site Sterile Processing That Keeps Care Moving
To maintain uninterrupted sterile processing during renovations, the Defense Health Agency turned to RAD and the FlexSPD, a mobile sterile processing facility, developed through a collaboration between RAD and Belimed Inc., a global supplier of medical and surgical instrument sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning products and services.
The FlexSPD was installed on site in 16 hours and was operational in five weeks. The FlexSPD delivered quick, on-site sterilization support without compromising patient safety or hospital workflows.
Once the hospital’s permanent SPD upgrade is complete, the FlexSPD can be efficiently removed or redeployed elsewhere within the healthcare system, providing unmatched versatility. With this innovative approach, RAD ensured uninterrupted sterile processing for the Defense Health Agency—while setting a new standard for modular healthcare support solutions.
